Moss Motors was founded in 1979 by the late William (Billy-Jack) Moss. The company began automotive operations with Honda in 1979 adding BMW in 1980 and Mercedes-Benz in 1981. Moss Motors initially employed 30 employees and has grown to 140 employees. In 1989, the company's founder, Bill Moss, died of cancer. His wife, Sharon Moss, was faced with a difficult decision. She could have sold the business or invest the insurance proceeds in the ailing business. 1989 was not a good year for the automobile industry. Louisiana was in a recession due to low price of oil. Sharon's financial advisers instructed her to sell the business. Instead, she made a quick decision to pick up her where her late husband left off. During that time, Bill Moss also owned and operated Moss Oldsmobile and Moss GMC. Sharon sold both of those franchises to Courtesy Automotive Group. Sharon was not new to the automotive industry because her father, John H. Coury owned and operated General Motors dealerships in Oklahoma and Texas. Sharon quickly rose to the challenge and since then Moss Motors has grown to the 18th largest dealership in the state of Louisiana out of 400 dealerships statewide. Sharon has one son, Coury Moss, who serves as the company's General Manager.
